Tuk Tuk tour of Fort Cochin and Mattancherry

pic09Morning you will be picked from your hotel, board the Auto Rickshaws or also popularly known as Tuk Tuk ‘s to enjoy a heritage tour of Fort Cochin & Mattanchery. You will visit St. Francis Church, the oldest church built by Europeans in India where the Vasco Da Gama was buried. You get to see the old spice markets, some of which still ply their trade and the life of the people who live in the labyrinth which once used to be a thriving trading port. Later explore Mattancherry district and the nearby Jew Town. Your tour will also include visits to Mattancherry Palace, known locally as the ‘Dutch Palace’ and Pardesi Synagogue. The Pardesi (White Jew) Synagogue is located close to the Pepper Exchange, in the midst of the busiest spice trading area.

Farm House Visit with lunch with a visit to Athirapally waterfalls

Nutmeg greens are a sprawling farm with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Situated along the picturesque Chalakkudy River near the famous Athirapally Waterfalls, the nutmeg greens Estate offers a cool and rejuvenating ambience, away from time-crunching schedules, hectic meetings and pollution soaked air of the cities. This organic farm is filled with evergreen trees like Nutmeg and Rubber along with hundreds of varieties of plants and vegetables. The organic farm is also home to a wide range of fauna with turkey, cows, ducks, swans, hens, goats and more. We can arrange a day visit to this farm. The program starts with a welcome drink followed by a tour of the farm. The host will introduce various crops and cultivations in the farm and there will live demonstration on rubber tapping, coconut picking, nutmeg harvesting etc. Guests can also visit their cattle farm, fish ponds and the near by Chalakkudy rivers which is 5 mins walk from the farm. Later there will be a cooking demonstration of some real local cuisines of mid lands of Kerala followed by a sumptuous lunch with a chilled beer. There is a full fledged farm house, which the group can use it for refreshment. Depending upon the days program we can visit Athirapally waterfalls too.

pic05Visit to Kodanad Elephant Camp

Have an early morning Breakfast and Proceed to KODANAD Elephant training camp, which is 65 kms. from Fort Cochin . Kodanad elephant training centre is a peaceful spot among forest-like environs. Before 1977, elephants were captured from the nearby Malayattor forests and trained at Kodanad. Capture of elephants was banned in that year and Kodanad centre does not engage in capturing elephants any more. The Kodanad centre now focuses on training elephants. Young elephants are trained from early on. Elephants are accommodated in the sturdy cage. The cage allows training in a more humane manner, instead of being torture-based. Elephant kids might get a wash inside the cage. If you are interested you get an elephant ride. . You would informally get a chance to experience hands-on bathe and massage of adult and baby elephants under the supervision of its Mahouts.

Kallancherry fishing village visit

Morning visit Kumbalanghi Model Tourism Village to experience the fishermen village activities like live fish catching, Crab farm, coir making etc. On arrival refresh yourself with a tender coconut drink; later visit the Fishing Village. Kallanchery Retreat is a local estate converted in to a home stay, it is designed to offer the guests great insights in to the life and culture of the people of Kumbalangi. Kallanchery is a perfect out of the map setting. Later enjoy a home cooked lunch by the side of backwaters. You could also enjoy a country boat ride on the backwaters and see and get first hand experience on the Chinese Fishing Nets.

It is more than serving food and cooking for Leela and her family, who love taking the tourists around the city and making them feel at home. The guests have the opportunity to enjoy conversation related to varied topics such as art, culture and even politics. The interaction helps guests learn a lot about the way of life of Indian families and they learn basics of traditional Syrian-Christian Keralan cuisine, which is not easy to find, much less learn to prepare, outside of India.

Day Excursion to Periyar

Periyar Wildlife sanctuary offers the unique opportunity to watch and photograph wild elephants at close quarters. The reserve is a repository of rare, endemic and endangered flora and fauna .The Periyar wildlife Sanctuary, situated on the banks of the Periyar lake, is spread across 777 sq km, of which 360 sq km is thick evergreen forest. The artificial lake in the sanctuary was formed by the construction of the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River. On arrival in Periyar visit the spice plantation , where you can see the locally grown spices in Periyar like cinnamon, cardamom, pepper cloves etc. You will have a person to explain how they are grown, harvested and processed.

Later enjoy a elephant ride through the plantation. With this elephant safari programme one can watch closely and mingle with the elephants. Elephant safari is basically a ride or to roam upon an elephant through the spice plantation located close to Periyar. You will also do a boating on the lake. The herds of wild elephant that come to water on the banks of the lake are a major attraction.

Morning you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Alleppey. By noon board your Houseboat from the jetty for an exciting day cruise with on board lunch and snacks, covering the nearby villages and the ethnic life around these villages to Alleppey, through the famous Vembanad Lake. This afternoon you’ll enjoy a relaxing cruise through the waterways which gives you an opportunity to observe rural Kerala up close. For the people living on the banks, the backwaters are a part of their day to day life. You stop to look at paddy cultivation, watch local fishing, and see historic churches and local temples. By evening you will be dropped back and boat jetty, where you will be met by driver and transferred back to Cochin.

Day excursion to Munnar

Morning enjoy a day excursion to the tea country of Munnar. On arrival you enjoy a sightseeing tour of the high ranges. You will visit the Tea museum to see the processing of tea; it also has the history of tea in the region. There are other viewpoints like Eravikulam National Park famous for Nilgiri Thar, Mattupetty Dam and scenic place and these tend to be very popular with tourists.
